Garden of Planes:

The Garden of Planes is a minimalist interpretation of an Italian terraced garden. Freestanding Tennessee sandstone wall planes flank the entry. Bronze gates lead to a black slate terrace defined by a naval brass reflecting pool and a bronze vine scrim supporting grape vines. Cantilevered slate steps lead to a bocce lawn and a long cedar bench suspended from the vine scrim. Serviceberry trees in a quincunx pattern reminiscent of Tuscan olive groves disguise a path that leads to the secret garden, a pleasant place to enjoy a glass of wine. Slate steps crossing the adjacent reflecting pool subtly lead back to the entry terrace.

Gregg Bleam:

Gregg Bleam is the founding principal of Gregg Bleam Landscape Architect in Charlottesville, Virginia. He received his Masters of Landscape Architecture degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and has taught architectural and landscape design studios at the HGSD and the University of Virginia. Mr. Bleam worked for Dan Kiley before starting his own firm in 1990. His modernist designs have been recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects and the American Institute of Architects. In 2005 he received an ASLA National Honor Award for his Garden of Planes project in Richmond, Virginia.
