The recently completed rehabilitation of the Model Tobacco property revitalizes Richmond's most iconic industrial building. Built 1938-1940, the main building, power plant, and accessory buildings were designed by Chicago architects Schmidt, Garden and Erikson.
Architect Bob Winthrop said of the building, "It’s a triumph of industrial design”. Owner Chris Harrison, who will be speaking at the tour with project architect Sarah McInerney (Walter Parks Architects) has led a phased renovation resulting in a multi-use campus that includes 275 apartments, a roof terrace, climbing wall, theater, basketball court, and pool.
